Gameplay Action in Deadly Premonition is split between investigative gameplay required to solve the series of murders that have been committed in Greenvale and combat tactics needed to survive the bevy of creatures that inexplicably lurk the town and its surroundings. The game features a persistent open world which the player in the role of Agent Morgan can explore at will, searching for clues and observing and/or interacting with non-player characters (NPCs). The game is populated with more than 30 NPCs, each with its own personality, backstory, etc. These townspeople are wary of becoming the next victim of the murderer on the loose, and one perhaps of being exposed as the killer. Because of the variety of NPC attitudes toward Agent Morgan and his investigation, as well as the persistent gameworld allowing them to have their own schedules which vary from hour to hour, players can stalk them, hoping to reveal clues, character insights and even side quests. Deadly Premonition also contains a wealth of horror-survival combat gameplay. As players crisscross the gameworld in search of clues to the murders, they will encounter perilous, otherworldly creatures. Some of these like the android like “Shadows” can be dealt with using a variety of melee weapons and firearms available in the game, but players will also encounter the legendary axe-wielding fiend known as the “Raincoat Killer”. What if any connection is there between these creatures and the murders afflicting the town? That is up to you to determine. What is certain though is that they pose an immediate and very real threat to your survival, making players’ decisions whether to run or stand his ground crucial in each varying situation.

I popped this game into my 360 and was BLOWN TO GOD COUNTRY!!! This game has no…NO limits when it comes to graphics. It takes a bomb and BLOWS THE UNCANNY VALLEY INTO DUST AND TINY FRIKKING PEBBLES!! I drink gallons of coffee just to stay wide awake and play this game over and over and over. I have ruined countless pairs of jeans playing this game. Needless I have given every other game I owned to Goodwill and canceled my order for God of War 3 and Lego Universe.

Not anything about this game screams blockbuster, but the tale and play mechanics are pretty decent and at this price it’s well worth it! I had my eye on this one for a while and I’m glad I bought it.

Survival horror returns with the campy Deadly Premonition. Since the game is cheap you have to give it some slack. You have to marvel though about some of the design choices. The graphics are sub par but not too distracting. The menu system is perplexing and really bizarre. It opens with you peaking owing to some bushes and then you have to sort owing to what looks like a yard sale. They also hand hold you throughout the game with items and interaction points. They practically send up a flare and wave a flag telling you what to do or see next. The pop up text is really irritating but thankfully you can alacrity it up. The dialog and voice acting are terrible but it does go the tale by the side of. You get a over the shoulder view of the character similar to RE4 and a camera that snaps back into place. The creatures you meet up with are kind of creepy as are the environments you walk owing to. You get a gun with unlimited ammo but you still can’t walk and shoot(bummer). This is no RE or SH but it gives the latest Alone In the Dark a run for its cash. AITD has better production values but it has more frustrating game play. If you like survival horror give it a try but if you don’t have a very open mind you better rent first.

i don’t write reviews that often, but it’s titles like these that make you want to spread the word about the goodness that publishers like Ignition is doing.
Deadly Premonition may be a bit slow at times, the controls a bit clunky (just a bit) here and there…
but this game not only is greatly written; its plot navigates the line between scary and amusing perfectly
it keeps things entertaining being an action mix between a detective game and a survival horror game.
a lot of inside winks at movie culture, videogame culture, and 80’s culture
it has a nice Dreamcast glory days smell to it, which I in person like.
It certainly rivals sports meeting that are three times its price and manages to do it all while still being its own thing, having its own vibe, tale and pace to it.
Do yourself a favor and check this sleeper hit out!
