If you’re looking for the DDR experience, I wouldn’t recommend this game. The arrows in this game isn’t like the one in the original DDR sports meeting (the ones where the arrows go upwards and there are the 4 directional arrows set on top of the screen). In this game, it shows you the picture of what directional arrows you have to step on. By and large, it’s just not the same as playing the other “real” DDR video sports meeting.

I’m a experienced person DDR player–I play it every morning for implementation–and I thought I might delight in something different. Unfortunately, Dancing with the Stars is not it. Due to extremely long load times (before the song, and before the judges assess critically Player 1’s performance, and AGAIN before the judges assess critically Player 2’s performance…), non-skippable animations, and tons of unnecessary “press Start”/”press X”/”overwrite save” prompts, I’d spend more time waiting than dancing–really unacceptable for an aerobic workout.
If you have an HDTV and/or audio receiver, be warned that this game has no lag calibration options whatsoever. This game says Progressive Scan on the box, which, if it were right, would mitigate HDTV lag–but I couldn’t find any way to enable this (it’s not mentioned in the manual, there’s no menu option for it, and critical triangle and X during load doesn’t do it).
Also, the game is not quite compatible with Konami DDR dance mats (the kind bundled with DDR sports meeting) – menu navigation requires a triangle button, and Konami mats don’t have that (just X and O).
As for the gameplay itself, left/right foot assignments and timed freeze arrow releases are an fascinating challenge. Intensity (as in steps per second) is far lower than DDR, but the game is much pickier than DDR about step timing. I like the score multiplier that builds up after several consecutive steps hit. If the load times weren’t so atrocious, I might in fact delight in this game.

This game is really fun, and the graphics are cool! I have never done DDR regular, but I have done the disney version, and I like this better!!!!
The dances are fun, and it gives you a workout to. It’s also clean how you can get the judge’s scores.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the load times are a bit much. But I am still pleased with this game!

I have a blast playing this game. It’s tons of fun and it’s really clean to have the judges from the show give me my pointer and scores. I play with a dancepad, and my friend and I can’t wait to get another dance pad so we can play it at the same time. We have so much fun and we get a splendid workout, too! We like it!
