Gameplay As with all DanceDanceRevolution (DDR) sports meeting, gameplay in Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party 3 consists of the player mimicking as closely as possible the movements flashed on the screen in the form of directional arrows and other prompts. The goal is to do this as best as possible to gain as many points as you can, keep up a healthy “dance gauge” (your life bar) and get a excellent grade for each dance routine. Yet Hottest Party 3 for Wii sets itself apart from previous versions in this by including new input methods. The game bundle includes the familiar DDR floor peripheral for registering dance steps, which make up the majority of the game actions, and like earlier DDR versions for Wii, also includes Wii Remote and nunchuck support. What is new is the game’s Wii Balance penetrate integration. The balance penetrate is an optional accessory (sold separately), and allows for a whole new way to play in workout mode among others. The game also features 2-player local versus multiplayer support, Mii integration and new costume customization functionality and new game modes.

My kids received this as a present, set it up, it seemed to work, but they couldn’t get any of the dance steps to register AT ALL. Not a release one. The useless character on the screen only intoned “Try Harder!” over and over, finally chief to “FAILURE” or no matter what. Needless to say, after an hour or so of this, the kids were in tears.
I started doing tech support on this, and the first thing I noticed was that the pad was not in fact broken and seemed to work correctly. On the menus, the pad worked fine for critical A and B, moving around with the arrows, etc. But like the kids, I also could not score a release hit on even the simplest tutorial.
Doing some research on the Internet suggested that it needed to be plugged into a different socket. I had looked casually at the “quick start” instructions and noted that the kids had plugged it into the left-most socket, as the diagram implied. Looking closer now, I saw that the diagram in the instructions was UPSIDE DOWN!!! If you have your Wii meeting on its side, right-side up (with the guide on top), the diagram in the instructions is upside down.
This wouldn’t be so terrible except for the failure of the software to recognize this condition in any way. Visibly it would have taken just a few shape of code to have the game give a warning that “your pad is plugged into the incorrect port”. This is crap poor user interface, and obviously they didn’t take any real time to try this out with real kids. You suck, Konami.
So, it really deserved one star, but I’m giving it two in the hopes that my kids will delight in it, now that we’ve incurred hundreds of dollars of labor and misery so far. They’ll be up in a few minutes.

I bought this because I wanted the mat and the game looked like a excellent starter. **Using the accessory** mat is like stomping on a diaper. You can hear every shift of movement. I wear a US 5 shoe and my feet are too huge for the square unless my ankles are consistantly touching. **The game instructions** are useless. I had to nintendo call customer care to find my new console’s cube cables and there is literally one page written in several different languages (Thank you for the diversity, Tiwan). **Playing the game** with the balance penetrate means hours of fun hulahooping or leaning a certain management. With the diaper mat…well, I still haven’t quite figured what steps I’m allowed to do with that yet, so it’s an dreadful lot of stuttered jumping and confusion. The cartoon lady does breakdancing and whatnot, while you are instructed to shake your nunchuck, hope it registers, and stomp a certain number of times on one of 4 squares.
I played this game for about an hour or more trying to make myself like it. I despise it. I cannot return it because the disc was opened…I’ve contemplated resealing the disc myself, but my conscience wont let me rip off Walmart. $70 wasted dollars for a piece of crap that I’ll still be forcing myself to try to delight in. DO NOT BUY THIS!!

I questioned for this game for Christmas because I thought it would be a fun activity to rotate in with my Wii Active program and from reviews thought it would be fun. Even in the DDR school I found it very frustrating to get the steps and didn’t appreciate the unenthusiastic feed-back. Much of the time I felt like I needed a third foot in order to succeed. It made me feel very uncoordinated, which I know I am not since I have taken many dance classes from ballroom to contemporary. Perhaps it is too rigid and not the right dance game for me. I’ve chose to look into Adult Education classes in my area for a real dance class.

My wife likes to dance, so I thought this would be a nice thought to go by the side of with the Wii fit. Nice thought, terrible implementation. As another reviewer has said, even in the DDR school, it is hard to follow and there is really no way to slow down the pace to something more manageable. And the music…. Maybe there needs to be a middle aged version of DDR with Motown, Beach Boys, etc.

Loads of fun, although I have to say it seems more for group dances. I would never dance like this on a dance floor. Fun for playing!
