For more than 20 years, the Coalition and the Nationalists fought their bloody war. With war comes technology, and it developed at an astonishing pace. The two armies fought each other with ever more powerful weapons, yet neither side gained the advantage. Ultimately, the two sides ran out of funds, willpower, and men. As the armies collapsed leaving the country in anarchy, a new potential rose. Sweeping down on the exhausted country, PSI’s forces obliterated the remaining armies and started its conquest of the East. Now, the Western territories, mostly unaffected by the civil war, find themselves suddenly defenseless against a new and quickly growing east coast potential.Amazon.com Product Description

An Alternate History: the Peacemakers and the PSI
You’ll follow an ensemble cast including the hero Rourke — a experienced person of the war that ripped the country into pieces and member of a guerilla army called the Peacemakers. These rough fighters are up against the PSI led by William Dean Prescott, a powerful and manipulative man angling to become the dictator of an industrialized empire. As the complicated, multi-faceted tale unfolds around Rourke and his cohort, you’ll find that he is still looking for his son and fiancee, who went MIA during the war.
The cast of characters includes native healers and seers with unique abilities. And fighters can use a special spirit vision ability to see enemies owing to parapet or from far away, making it impossible for anyone to stay hidden for long.
Rich, Innovative Vertical Environments
Featuring rugged, detailed environments that have been designed to maximize the impact of vertical space, Damnation follows the action as it moves though deep canyons, up shear cliff faces, into secret caverns, around immense skyscrapers, and toward PSI’s factory fortress, which sprawls across the tundra. Each location offers miles of horizontal ground and thousands of vertical feet for players to explore and exploit.
This means you’re movement isn’t just limited to running, ducking, and driving a burly motorbike. If you want to survive, you’ll have to master shooting while in the middle of climbing scaffolding, sliding down ropes, and using vehicles to jump huge chasms. And, of course, the developer’s emphasis on vertical movement adds a whole new dimension to the concept of holding the high ground in a firefight, since attacks really can come from just about anywhere.
Rounding out your experience, a combination of dynamic 3D graphics and tough, steampunk aesthetics brings an iconic look and feel to the game’s ten distinctive weapons, edgy playable vehicles, and bold manufacturing structures.

Damnation is a excellent game that’s getting a lot of undeserved criticism. I read a lot of the terrible reviews that have come out about this game but chose to give it a try because I like the concept of steam punk mixed with alternate west history.
I’ve been playing this game for a few days now and just don’t know why this game is getting such unenthusiastic reviews. It nearly seems like none of the critics have played the game for more than a few minutes before giving up on it. The controls were a small different from titles I’ve played in the past but were very simple to learn and in fact felt quite natural.
According to a lot of critics, the aiming in the game is supposedly horrible. I found this not to be an accurate statement. The only weapon that is a small hard to aim is the pistol. Pistols in just about every game that I’ve ever played are usually hard to aim and takes a lot of bullets to take down a foe. What the critics failed to mention is that when you use any of the other two weapons that your character has, and can swap out, the aiming is simple and it does not take a lot of shots to take down an enemy. The sniper rifle for example can take out enemies in one shot!
When you encounter enemies, they are aggressive and will take cover. They do not just stand in place like the critics state!. Also, the game runs with a very charming frame rate and I have not noticed any graphical glitches so far. The environments are huge and varied with lots to explore. I like this because I am a fan of exploration sports meeting and 3rd person shooters and this game blends the two together very well.
I also want to make note of the criticism that the game is getting for it’s graphics. The game is set in rocky environments (caves, mountains and the like). This is the reason for the drab colors. It’s called realism. Not every environment needs to be bursting with multi colors to look excellent. I reflect the graphics look pretty excellent and give a sense of realism.
I find this to be a fun game to play and in my opinion, that’s all that matters.

I bit the bullet and bought this game and its not as terrible as anyone is saying it is and i mean c’mon are you compairing it to huge budget realease’s or something? ive played for a bit and seen none of the glitches or floating bodies that ign have complained about. and while the graphics are not all that splendid they sure as hell aint crappy. the game does feel a bit awkward to play but i reflect its because this is a splendid concept that nobody has tried before and because of the reviews this has gotten we probably wont see a sequal which would have tidied up the gamplay and polished the game up a bit. I have loved this so far. What i dont like is people saying “oh its from codemasters and they suck so this was doomed from the get go” hello people grid, dirt, overlord, fuel anyone “chirp chirp”.
by and large its a alright attempt at something fresh i give them a A for effort but a C+ in execution. Not splendid, not terrible , not worth 60 but maybe worth 30.

I play a lot of sports meeting on my PS3. In fact, I have finished about 30 sports meeting(took the game all the way to the credits) including some splendid sports meeting–Resistance 1 and 2, Killzone 2, New, Prince of Persia, FEAR 1 and 2, Call of Duty 3,4, and 5 and some not so splendid(Battlefield Terrible company, Jericho, and Tomb Raider Underworld) the list goes on and on–so I reflect I am a pretty excellent judge on what makes a excellent game and what makes a terrible one.
If you are looking for a game like Gears of War or Resistance–this one is not for you. If you are looking for a polished game experience like Far Weep 2 or Resident Evil 5, then this is not for you. This game is a platformer which also happens to be a shooter. Hmm, not many sports meeting in this genre. Probably Tomb Raider comes pretty close but that game does not have the firefights featured in this game.
I really reflect that this game is one of a kind and if you realize what kind of game this is, it is really pretty splendid. That being said, nearly every assess critically made about this game are right. It does have a bit of an unpolished, unfinished feel to it. The frame rate does hitch sometimes(usually at the beginning of a new area–not during the fights.) There are load screen in the middle of jumps(seriously) and the middle of sentences in fact!!(I am not kidding here.) The character models are pretty stiff and the AI(of your team mates and enemies) are as dumb as bricks. Not that you really care as it is simply fun taking these idiots heads off with the awesome sniper rifle.
Two critiques I have seen which are not right are the controls and the map design. Many reviewers seem to reflect that the controls of this game are hard. I have no thought what they are talking about. You jump with X. You throw grenade with Triangle, you shoot by holding the left trigger and firing with the right–like Gears of War and Resident Evil 5. The reload is the only thing kind of unusual as you click the left stick. This is not he first time I have seen this though with Lost Planet using the same arrangement. As for the maps, they are not that hard to get owing to and I NEVER GOT LOST. They tell you that you have to get to the top of the bottom of an area. If you have to get to the bottom, then obviously you have to go down. The top, duh, you have to go up. A couple of times, I had to spend a few minutes figuring out how to get up or down but that is pretty standard fare in any platforming game.
This game is very fun to play. The glitches do not anything to reduce the really fun part of this game which is the platforming. In fact, the glitches are in fact pretty excellent for a laugh!! What is incorrect with that? Same thing with the terrible voice acting. It is no worse that the original Resident Evil–in fact, I really reflect that the terrible voice acting makes the game campy and fun!!
I just finished Tomb Raider Underworld. The platforming on Damnation is better in nearly every way than that found in the right abomination which is Tomb Raider. Damnation has checkpoints but these are only used for the parts of the game where you are getting shot at. if you fall off a ledge or miss a jump, the game just puts you back on the last flat surface that you were on–reflect the new Prince of Persia. You cannot jump into an abyss by mistake in the game as when you jump backward, you need to hold R1 and then hit X. How smart is that? The camera on Damnation is about 200% better than the horrible camera in Tomb Raider which seems intent on fighting you throughout the entire game. IT never gets caught on a ledge or give you nice view of the back of the main character’s head when you are attempting a hard jump like Tomb Raider.
The graphics are not nearly as terrible as everyone says. In fact the beginning of the Terra Verte has some of the nicest graphics that I have seen in a while on my PS3. My point is that if you like platforming sports meeting, you owe it to yourself to give this game a chance. Give it a chance–ignore the glitches and dumb AI and appreciate this game for what it is–a really well done platforming game with really cool vistas and a splendid sense of accomplishment when you make it to the end of a stage.

I felt I owe it to anyone that is taking the time to check-up on this game before buying it to tell them not to dissipate their hard earned, borrowed, or stolen cash on it. You would be better off stabbing yourself in the forehead with a bread knife than handing over one dollar for this lousy excuse of a game. If I was Sony, I would be embarrassed for having my name on the box.
After having said what I have said, I do not even feel anyone would have the need to know the specifics of why I said what I said. All of my feelings about this game can be boiled down to one word… garbage.
