Seven years prior to the events of FINAL FANTASY VII — The Shinra Company is rapidly increasing its influence owing to its monopoly on mako energy and military might. With the burgeoning city of Midgar as its base and symbol of prosperity, Shinra is on the verge of establishing resolution dominance over the world. SOLDIER is a group of skilled combat operatives within Shinra. The elite within the group — those strong enough to be deemed SOLDIER 1st Class — are respected and idolized by the citizenry. Zack is a young SOLDIER 2nd Class who aspires to become a 1st. He spends his days carrying out assignments under the guidance of his 1st Class mentor, Angeal. During an operation in Wutai, a large number of SOLDIER members, led by 1st Class operative Genesis, go missing. The severity of the situation prompts Shinra executives to deploy even more SOLDIER operatives in hopes of bringing an end to the war with Wutai—and conducting an investigation into the mass desertion. The ones assigned to the mission are Zack, Angeal, and the 1st Class hero who is known the world over as Sephiroth… What truths lie behind Genesis’s disappearance? What secrets bind the three SOLDIER 1st Class operatives? For Zack, a cruel and fateful struggle awaits…

Wow! That’s all I can say. I selected this game up with such high hopes, even the reviews were splendid. Apparently the people who rated this game so high have never played an RPG in their life. You level up randomly? Are you honest? Who thought of that? They should be fired. I have been a FF fanboy since the beginning, but this is by far the worst disappointment in the series. I keep looking on the internet to find some kind of hidden exp system, but none exists. So I make it to the final boss and am not anywhere near powerful enough to defeat him. So I try and level up for a while and no go there either. I gotta wait until the game decides to give me three sevens, and at this point I don’t reflect it’ll ever happen. I’m going to give this to someone I don’t like next year for Christmas instead of coal, because this is much much worse. Thanks, but no thanks. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME IF YOU ARE A TRUE FINAL FANTASY FAN!

An absolutely incredible game with a splendid plot. By far the best ff game I’ve played since ffvii, probably cause its connected.
If you haven’t played this game you need to.

My title says it all, if you like God of War you will like Chains also. The graphics are very excellent and the controls worked better then I had expected, but the game is about a stage or two too small. I expected about ten hours of game play and Chains clocked in at only about seven. A excellent game, would have been splendid if longer, but not a must play if you have to pay full price.

Having had any like for Final Fantasy 7 dashed upon the rocky shores of cosplaying idiots and horrific fan-fiction, I was understandably nervous when I opened this game. Visions of 300 lb Tifa wanna-be’s and thousands of unwashed Sephiroth imitators rampaging owing to the streets flooded my mind as the game loaded. Fearing the worst, I started to play.
My hopes and fears are both realized in the first hour of play. Engaging and intuitive gameplay kept me joyously enraptured wih the storyline, but the game nearly prophesizes the return of imbecilles in terrible costumes. The storyline is simple to follow, and engaging, and unfortunately lends many openings to the same homo-erotic fan-fic garbage that polluted Final Fantasy 7.
As a game: Top notch. As a foundation for more lurid fan leisure activities: a death sentence.
