relly wanted to like this game and been waiting for its release, I’m an grown-up video game fan and played the orig Contra in arcades when it came out. Game is incredibly HARD – even on simple setting (which is an incomplete game), combined with an extremely lame save feature (it takes away a continue using it). As an grown-up fan looking for fun – with these features on a hand held system (meant for shorter play times) these things are completly unacceptable. Leave the hard gimmicks for the hard setting. I really reflect they made a huge mistake with the features of this game, and probably will trade it in soon. Its really a bring shame on also
because the graphics / levels/ controls are all splendid !
PS: 2 those who say ” be a man” -The grown-up sports meeting were so hard because they were derived from arcade sports meeting which were meant to just simply take all your cash away from you- at this stage in my life (and im the core “nostalgic’ consultation for this game) this game isn’t fun

I really wanted to like this game because I LOVED the first Contra sports meeting for the NES. The Alien Wars for SNES was splendid too. This game is flat out TOO HARD though. I read several clear reviews online and in magazines which I honestly cannot believe were written by honest magazine writers because this game is literally impossible.
My video game skills are decent, my Contra skills are decent too. This game is just ridiculous. Don’t dissipate your cash. I sold my game after a couple tries because its beyond frustrating.
Its just like Ghosts n Goblins – gorgeous to look at, but horrible to play. The only difference is that Ghosts n Goblins managed to be fun in parts. One of the largest wastes of cash in years. I will never get fooled into buying another Contra game.

To sum it up… way too hard!
I loved the original Contra, Super C, and Contra III. I have played owing to Contra III on Hard difficulty and still had fun.
Contra 4 is painfully, punishingly hard. The difficulty is at the point of making the game a chore to grind owing to. Weapons matter a huge amount as they make the level much simpler to get owing to. If you die then you lose one and it makes an already hard level 10 times harder to get owing to.
I beat the game on Simple, but was shocked to learn that 2 of the levels are not accessible except on Normal or Hard. That is just lame. It is acceptable to have different endings or even a release extra boss on harder difficulties, but two freakin’ levels!!! I found it all but impossible to get owing to to those levels on Normal.
I even learned a bug in the game that gave me 99 lives at the end of level 5, and I was still not able to beat the game on Normal!
I am for challenging game play, but that should not detract from the rest of the game. It should still be enjoyable to play. The difficulty should not jump exponentially from Simple to Normal.

It is REALLY hard but by and large a excellent game. The only way that it’s enjoyable though is doing the 99 live cheat at the begining. After that, it’s a really fun game.
Let me tell you, the only way you’ll get owing to this game is with that cheat.
