After all the Hype about this game I bought it…well in my opinion it just felt flat on its face. The game simply is not very intersting and the storyline can be plain dull. There are other RPGs out there that are better and you simply get immersed in the tale line quickly. The battles get dull extremely quickly since all you do is kinda point and tap the same guys over and over. The “costumes” and “decals” are kinda stupid. Many said this was the next EARTHBOUND, well is NOT and not even close. The Nintendo DS has so much potential and this game does not deliver in graphics, sound , game play and fun. dont get me incorrect the game is not horrible by any means but defitnetly not that excellent either. check out some reviews out there before you buy it.

Friend for the DS is a eerie small RPG that had some hype surrounding it, but disregard anything excellent you might have heard. Looking like a bastard offspring of Earthbound for the Super Nintendo, Friend offers some nice dungeon type areas, quirky characters, and nice side quests, but the rest of it feels as if we’ve seen all this before, and seen it done better to boot. What really hurts Friend is the incredibly dull and repetitive combat, in which each side trades hits until one goes down. The combat alone makes Friend suffer, not to mention the bland graphics, tacked on touch screen controls and features, and a surprisingly small main quest for an RPG. There’s some Wi-Fi capabilities as well, allowing you to take some special items via trades with other players, and that’s about all that Friend has to offer. The game has a unique charm to it, and it’s not necessarily a hard game to get into, but there’s not anything here that brings it to the level of say, Final Fantasy III. All in all, Friend isn’t a terrible game one bit, but it’s far from being anything spectacular.

This is a eerie small game. it’s crazy, unique, and so incredibly fun and addictive it’s insane. If you like earthbound, and killer seven, you’ve just found their like outcome.

This game was very fascinating it played like a computer game, has a splendid tale line with plenty of wacky, kookiness from the professor, and has descent graphics too. The view is from above and the attack system unique but easily handled. It’s RPG play leaves lots of options for customizing weapons and armor. So many small tidbits and places to explore. I recomment this to action/ adventure fans.

It took awhile but finally completed the game. Although Friend doesnt really require you to spend 40 to 50 hours to complete it. You can probably should do more than just run owing to the game. Otherwise you are liable to miss out on some cool sidequests and other items that you would miss. You are controlling Terry or no matter what you name him as he has washed up on a beach on deserted island. The professor and his pet make friend with him waking him up after he’s collapsed.
He gives you this way of contacting and coming back to the ship, you will also be able to heal yourself with other decals that he comes across and gives to you.
You will also be able to collect different decals mostly from monster drops and glue them thereby gaining a bonus in no matter what the decal says. You can equip up to four of them at once.
Your goal is basic at first and that is to collect this cell’s that the Professor needs to potential the ship. It is innocent enough for awhile but he’s not being really honest which you’ll find out later in the game. You have many skills Vocational (Fishing, Lockpicking/Thief, Cooking) and proficiencies in the many different weapons that you’ll collect Types (Slashing, Striking and Punching). Using the different weapons will up your skill in those areas. He is also able to cast different types of magic (Earth/Water/Fire/Wind) and their secondary skills in each of those areas as well.
You will also build up Terry’s stats:
Strength (up it by attacking)
Defense (getting hit helps here)
Dexterity (hitting quick enemies ups this)
Agility
Wisdom (using different magic boosts this)
Stamina (again taking hurt ups this)
Alacrity (spend some time running around to boost this)
Also Personality stats:
Fame (defeating enemies)
Courage (defeating stronger enemies than him)
Karma (self explanatory)
It seems like a lot but once you start playing the game things will flow by the side of pretty quickly. Main goal is collecting the cells but you run across others trying to do the same as you. You’ll cross paths and battle from time to time and as you collect the cells you are able to venture out further and further to other islands and what not. Very enjoyable, pretty straight forward as long as you build up your character by the side of the way you should have no conundrum beating no matter what the game throws at you.
So give Friend a try and play it owing to straight forward or take the path less travelled and take your time owing to it. Either way its a journey that’s worth taking and a well done game in its own right…thanks Atlus!!
