ClueFinders Search & Solve Adventures by MacKiev is educational software developed for ages 9 to 12+. Presented in the format of a Saturday morning TV Cartoon adventure show it features four cool young people, who seek to solve the mystery of an abandoned, haunted amusement park. There are nine different activities or skills that must be achieved. Players progress owing to the game by solving problems using logic, pattern completion, order and sequence, cause and effect, plotting & approach, analogy, and other critical thinking skills.
Since this is a program developed for pre-young adulthood I enlisted the help of my eleven year ancient granddaughter to try it out. I handed her the installation CD and the User Guide and sat back and watched.
She had no conundrum with the installation, she just had to click on the install icon, but since the installation did not automatically place an icon in the dock I had to help her find the ClueFinders Search & Solve Icon in the Application folder. The User Guide does cover this very visibly so she could have found it by herself if I had thought to refer her to the guide.
Next, she chose to take the included Assessment Test, which places each player at the right level to start. This was her least favorite part of the game. Her complaint is it was too slow between the preassessment questions, and thus took too long.
She used the User Guide to work her way owing to the game and stated she really liked this booklet as the instructions were clear giving the goal, tips, and how to play instructions for each activity. She really appreciated the colored illustrations that show and clarify the details for each activity.
As you go owing to the game there are on screen characters that clarify each activity. Additional directions, tips and helps can also be accessed at any time. The difficulty levels of each activity can be adjusted at the beginning or while playing the game. There is a Practice Mode available which allows the player to leave the game and work on any of the skills as long and as often as desired,
My granddaughter liked the fact that you can be challenged by the game or you can set the activities at an simpler level and just have fun. She liked the tale line that accompanied the characters so she knew what was happening as she travelled owing to the activities. Each activity made her reflect. She stated she likes to learn but wants to have fun while learning. She thought the game was very fascinating and lots of fun and wanted to be sure it would be available for her to continue playing later. My granddaughter would recommend ClueFinders Search & Solve Adventures to her friends. She tariff it as 4.5.
From a parent’s or grandparent’s view I found ClueFinders Search & Solve Adventures very well done, the animation & audio are excellent, the activities challenging and fun, and it is written so that the pre-teen outcome can know what needs to be accomplished. I had to help my granddaughter a couple of times, but believe, left on her own, she would have eventually figured out what was needed by herself. ClueFinders Search & Solve Adventures provides a fun experience to help build and increase conundrum solving, choice making and critical thinking skills. This software provides a customized learning experience where the level of problems presented is endlessly adjusted to take the apprentice’s progress into account.
