Splendid Civ game but a bug rendered it unplayable past a certain point. I’ve been playing on a new-ish(newer than the game) Dell Inspiron notebook with an ATI Radeon x1400 thingie and plenty of memory and I’m still waiting for the next patch (last one is 1.61). I’ve tried the most reasonable of the fixes on all the various boards to no avail. I’m not alone.

It seems like a splendid game. Unfortunately for me, I am out about $50 because I have a G4 computer and therefore can’t use it. I didn’t realize before this buy that it isn’t enough just to check the system supplies for operating system and memory. I also need to check the exact computers that it can be run on! It used to be that I just checked to make sure I was running Mac OS X and had enough memory, et cetera. Since I am running the most recent version of OS X 10.4.8. I figured new software would work. I’m frustrated that If I don’t buy a new computer, I can’t run new applications, but if I buy a new computer, I can’t run all my ancient applications. Not a user friendly concept. The box sits on my shelf, useless to me. Too terrible it wasn’t made to run on a G4 as well. Oh well, the best laid plans of mice and men…” It’s too expensive to expect users to constantly start their application libraries all over from the beginning every few years, or to keep buying new computers while the ancient one still works fine.

I bought this game because my son had an grown-up version, loved it, and wanted this newer one. He likes it. In watching over his shoulder I was a small concerned about all the ‘killing’. I didn’t know that war was such an vital component of the game when I bought it for him. It’s not gory violence like an action game, but still there’s killing going on.
