Nintendo 64 EXTREME green controller
- Official Nintendo Brand
- Limited Edition Extreme Green
Product Description
The controller for the Nintendo 64 was designed to be held in several different positions. It could be held by the two outer grips, allowing use of the digital D-pad, right-hand face buttons and the “L” and “R” shoulder buttons (but not the “Z” trigger or analog stick). It could be also held by the center and right-hand grip, allowing the use of the release analog stick, the right hand-buttons, the “R” shoulder button, and the “Z” trigger on the rear (but not the “L” shoulder button or D-pad). Finally, it could be held entirely by the left or right hand by the center grip, allowing it to be held like a pistol for FPS sports meeting.[citation needed] More often than not the analog stick was used in sports meeting while in some, both the analog stick and directional pad could be interchangeable (ex: Mortal Kombat Trilogy). Very few sports meeting used the directional pad exclusively; two examples are the 3D puzzle game Tetrisphere and the side-scrolling platformer Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. The controller also included four “C buttons”, which were originally intended to control the camera in the N64’s three dimensional environments. But, since the pad only contained three other face buttons, the C-buttons often became assigned to ulterior functions. An example of this is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, where the C-buttons can be assigned to secondary items and the “Z”-trigger is used to orient the camera. One game, Robotron 64 allowed one player to use two controllers to control his avatar. This way the game played like its predecessor, Robotron 2084. The controller initially came only in gray, but other hues were released later on, many of them coinciding with the release of a similarly designed system. Some include: black, red, green, golden-haired, blue, atomic purple, and special edition colors like gold and Limited Edition Extreme GREEN.

While it never quite achieves Muhammad Ali-like greatness, Knockout Kings 2000 is nonetheless an brilliant boxing game for both the enthusiast and the casual gamer. Fifty boxing legends from the past and present are featured in this EA Sports title, by the side of with world-legendary arenas and TV-stylishness coverage. In addition to being able to set up your own fights in the standard exhibition mode, you can play out nine of the greatest boxing matches in history in the game’s classic mode. And for those interested in less realism and more pugilism, slugfest mode offers over-the-top, arcade-stylishness boxing.
The real crowd pleaser here is Knockout Kings 2000’s career mode. Choosing from a wide variety of options, you get to make your own custom boxer, who can fight his way to the top in career mode or participate in exhibition and slugfest matches. Before career fights, customized boxers can be improved by training, or playing various mini-sports meeting. (A memory card is required to save custom boxer data.)
What robs Knockout Kings 2000 of the championship belt is its unbalanced 3-D graphics. The boxers look splendid and go fluidly, but everything else appears flat and unfinished. Thankfully, quick game alacrity and open controls clamp down on the visiting the attractions, which is one sure-fire way to end up KO’d. –Joe Hon
Pros:
- Can make your own custom boxer
- Features realistic and arcade-stylishness boxing
- Quick game alacrity and open controls
- Optional 1-button mode for those who don’t want to memorize controls
Cons:
- Except for the boxers, graphics aren’t very pretty

NASCAR 2000
Product Description
NASCAR 2000 re-makes the sport of NASCAR racing more accurately than any game ever has. Sure, NASCAR 99 did an incredible job of re-making the sport, but with new options and features like interactive pit stops, a draft meter, and hi-res graphics, NASCAR 2000 is truly a much better game for die-hard NASCAR fans and casual fans alike.Editorial Review
Fully loaded with all the authentic features that EA Sports titles are known for, this title is geared to be a NASCAR fan’s dream ride. Forty NASCAR drivers and cars and 18 licensed tracks straight out of the 1999 NASCAR season are represented here, by the side of with “live” commentary by legendary auto-racing announcers and audio help from a crew chief and spotter.
In addition to solid controls, NASCAR 2000 sports some impressive crash and hurt effects, and makes up for its lack of car modifications by allowing players to change the game’s “NASCAR options” to make the gameplay more real or less real. (Regardless of which way you like it, a rumble pack is strongly recommended.) Provided they’re not deterred by the limited diversity in the courses–NASCAR tracks are nearly exclusively oval-shaped–non-NASCAR fans will find this to be a decent racing game.
Those familiar with the Nintendo 64 version of NASCAR 99 should note that the 2000 edition is virtually the same game. While the PlayStation version introduces several new features–such as “Fantasy Road Courses” to liven up the endless left turns of “official” tracks–the only significant changes here are updated NASCAR statistics and one new track. –Joe Hon
Pros:
- Solid controls
- Impressive crash and hurt effects
- Gameplay can be modified to be more real or less real
Cons:
- Bland graphics
- Small variety in tracks, which tend to be ovals
- Limited number of opponents in 2-player mode
- Virtually the same game as its predecessor, NASCAR 99

In-Fisherman Bass Hunter 64
Editorial Review
There are a lot of fishing sports meeting out there. Some are quite addictive. Unfortunately, Bass Hunter 64 is not one of them. Structurally, the game has potential: there are tournament and “just for fun” fishing modes, a wide selection of lures and tackle, different lakes and weather conditions to contend with, and the ability to guide your boat and use your fish-finder to locate the bass. Experienced fishermen will recognize the effort that went into the way the fish act: The bass tend to hug the structure, and go up and down in depth according to temperature and water conditions. Different lures work well for different situations, much as you’d expect from real bass.
The conundrum lies with the gameplay and the act of fishing itself. An essential accessory for any fishing game is the rumble pack. It’s that feeling of having a strike and fighting the fish that makes the pulse quicken in any fishing game. And it is here that Take 2 Interactive has fallen small. Hooking and landing a fish is a very ho-hum affair in this game. The rumble pack is used too sparingly, and the vibrations one feels seem to have no relation to the onscreen action. In the end, this is a game that quickly becomes dull. In Bass Hunter 64, even when the fish are biting, the thrills are the ones that got away. –Jeanne Uy
Pros:
- Wide choice of lures, including some well loved name brands
- Fish respond accurately to changing conditions
Cons:
- Onscreen help is riddled with errors: help screens for “Win tournaments,” “Buy equipment,” and “Trolling motor” bring up instructions on how to show the toolbar
- Controls are limiting: Not enough ways to impart action on the lure
- The fishing mini-game in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is more fun
- In this game, the act of catching a fish is just not exciting
