Game Storyline
In Castlevania: Likeness of Ruin, players take on the role of Jonathan Morris and Charlotte Orlean. During World War II, many lost souls from the global conflict were left to wander the world in search of salvation. Desperate to escape their terrible quandary, they sought to resurrect Dracula’s Castle from the rubble of society, helped by two mysterious parasite sisters. Now Jonathan and Charlotte must work together to confront the two parasite sisters, and ensure that this villainous catastrophe is not unleashed on the world.
Gameplay
Evolving the action-adventure gameplay that has been the series’ trademark for 20 years, Castlevania: Likeness of Ruin lets players switch freely between Jonathan and Charlotte as they proceed on their heroic mission, each with their own strengths, abilities and stylishness of play. Players can now utilize powerful combination attacks in which both characters let loose the full extent of their combat abilities to decimate the game’s more than 100 different enemies and bosses. In their quest to stop Dracula’s resurrection, Jonathan and Charlotte can collect and use different weapons, equipment, and items to increase their by and large skill level and buy new abilities.
As mentioned before, players can switch freely between both characters, a necessary option to win the game. For instance, you need to analyze certain situations and carefully choose to play either Jonathan or Charlotte in order to successfully battle against the parasite army. The two characters can also combine their powers to pull-off powerful combo attacks. Their combined abilities are needed in certain parts of the castle in order to progress owing to the game.
The game has two different endings. Both endings involve the prevention of Dracula’s resurrection, but only one in fact involves the defeat of Brauner. Different choices allow for a uniquely diverse gameplay experience.
Castlevania: Likeness of Ruin supports the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection with a limited cooperative play mode feature. There is an online shop mode used owing to Wi-Fi as well. Players are able to place their items up for sale in a realistic marketplace. And perhaps best of all, when another player buys the item, the selling player gains the cash but doesn’t lose the item.

A disappointing outing for the Castlevania franchise, especially considering Dawn of Mourn’s more or less brilliant offering. While the early premise brings to mind far superior entries such as the classic Dracula X or Legacy of Darkness, this pales in comparison to those and, even more insultingly, taints the characters from a previous entry, Bloodlines, with their insulting inclusion in this extremely lacking and excessively dull Castlevania. While graphically superb and excellent sound-wise for the most part, pretty pictures and excellent music (with mostly excellent voice acting) do not excuse the terrible tale, lacking gameplay, and outright frustrating attempts at accommodating the gimmicky insertions. After a point in the extremely predictable and groan-worthy tale, I place it down permanently. Save your cash and buy something more deserving of it instead.

An okay and challenging Castlevania that comes up small in a few really irritating ways.
1) The dual character mode isn’t implimented nearly as well as it could’ve been. There’s a very low rate of puzzles and abilities that utilize this new feature.
Re-used stages (or similar looking levels) within the game. You’d reflect the portraits would bring in some new variety, but the only really different type of level is the pyramid level. Most of the others just look like any other CV castle.
2) The quest mode can be really frustrating. Sometimes you’ll need an item that you have previously sold and can’t get back unless you know someone selling it on the WFC shop mode or start the game over. They should’ve made any quest releated items non-sellable, or allow you to complete the quest even if you do sell them. Also, you can take on 5 quests at a time max, so if you have that quest and can’t complete it, you’re just stuck and can’t pick up any new ones.
3) Selling items is a huge pain, as you are mandatory to keep one item of everything to prevent the above mentioned quest conundrum. Even if you did want to sell a bunch of stuff, it doesn’t remove your equiped gear from the “to sell” list, nor place an E or anything next to it, so you may accidently sell your equipment if you’re not paying attention.
4) Way too many enemies (and bosses) are reused…again
5) The tale is really comedy/anime driven and this proves to be a major distraction and seems very out of place given the timeframe of the game (WW2).
6) Promise of co-op play is only limited to boss rush mode.
7) 95% of the items and abilities are worthless or just clones of one another.
While still playable and sometimes enjoyable, this game certainly is the worse CV title since Harmony of Dissonance. Some of the levels and all the new enemies are cool, and so is the dual character mode. But for the above mentioned reasons this game fails to live up to Castlevania’s previous body of work. The largest improvement in this game, though, is it’s back to the Circle of the Moon difficulty level.

One of the best sports meeting cash can buy. The co-op mode can get a small stale after awile, but the game is huge and once beaten you unlock two more sets of characters to tour the paintings with.
