Boarder Zone

Boarder Zone

Editorial Review
Snowboarding is all the rage both on the slopes and on console systems, so why shouldn’t the Game Boy Affect get its very own snowboarding game? Despite the graphical limitations of the format, Boarder Zone manages to pack more than 20 tricks–performed by using various button and control pad combinations–and several courses into the game.

Choosing from four cute boarder characters, players race on five unique courses. Gamers can race a computer-controlled opponent, race against the timer, or thrash out as many tricks as possible. Other racing modes include challenge, practice, and a race ghost mode in which players compete against saved release-player races in an attempt to increase their best times and scores.

The game’s graphics are colorful, if a small on the flat side. Racing doesn’t exactly grant a rush, but Boarder Zone’s steadier tempo makes the fun tricks that much simpler to set up and pull off. –Robb Guido
