I’ll admit to being a fan of the Guilty Gear sports meeting they released for the original XBOX. I thought they were a fun draw-back to the ancient-2d fighting days (despite VERY rigid controls) and had splendid art designs. Most of this is carried into Blazblue and it succeeds as an extension of the series in that regard.
The huge difference between this game and the Guilty Gear series is the number of things included with the game. You have 12(completely unique)characters with hundreds of moves associated with each. You have a tale mode with branching plot points, suprisingly excellent writing and very excellent voice acting (though it moves VERY slow). You even have fun mini-episodes which clarify the social class of the setting and characters in the tale.
Now with that being said I’m still baffled at the outstanding reviews this game is recieving (as well as the $60 price). Even with all the things listed above it still felt like I was playing a game for previous-gen consoles. The tale plays out in still frame (ala Persona 4, devil summoner), and while the backgrounds are VERY well animated the character’s (though well designed) look and go rigid and stiff in comparison . It just doesn’t have the production values one would expect from a next-gen console.
Also I HATED the in-game drop in text at the beginning and end of each rounds. They take up nearly the WHOLE screen when they pop up to the point where you can’t even see your finishing moves at the end of each match!
Despite my above complaints this game IS fun to play. Though I’d rent it first so you can choose if it’s something you wanna spend $60 on.

This game will not replace a excellent Street Fighter title but it’s a nice change of pace, especially if u can get a copy for cheap. I own both sports meeting and like them both.

This is just my unadorned opinion. This game is FANTASTIC. If u though that 2d fighting sports meeting were dead u couldn’t be more incorrect. The tale is in fact excellent(rare among fighting sports meeting), and u get to know the characters and u will find ur “guy”. Graphics looks stunning and the animations are charming and nice effects. The cutscene at the start of the game is also perfectly made. The game’s online will serve anyone looking 4 that competitive edge and if u own someone really terribly u can also save it to look at it later or to show it off. I reflect this game did a lot of things right and its one of the best if not the best fighter ever.

I’ve been a fan of fighting sports meeting since I played Killer Instinct and Mortal Kombat 2 on the Super Nintendo, and since then I’ve tried to get at least a couple of excellent sports meeting from the genre on each system I’ve owned. This generation I immediately went for Soul Calibur 4, being a huge fan of the series.
But where does BlazBlue come in? Well, I started hearing about it about a month before the Limited Edition release and I thought it looked fascinating, but really didn’t plot on getting it. But as I started watching more video previews and reading more reviews, my interest was piqued and I chose to take the risk and buy the game, and I will admit the the LE for the same price as the standard edition played a part in that choice. I have to say it was on of the best gaming decisions of my life.
BlazBlue is fighting gaming perfected. Yes there are only twelve characters, bu they’re so unique and so fun to play as and try to master that you won’t get bored. Honestly, I reflect that BlazBlue feels like it has a better variety of fighters than sports meeting like Soul Calibur and their clone-filled cast.
The gameplay is what makes this game incredible though. Anyone can pick it and start playing with just about any character thanks to the guide system and the mapped special system that’s similar to Super Smash Bros. analog stick auto smash moves. But there’s also a huge amount of depth and approach that can be explored once you start getting comfortable with the controls and the character(s) of your choice.
One review I saw floating around the internet said that this is the best game that most people will never play; I really hope that isn’t the case. This is one of the best sports meeting released in ‘09 so far, and no matter what system or edition you get, it is worth the buy. It’s simply an outstanding game.

If you’re looking for a excellent fight, you can’t do better. Matches are quick paced (but long lasting) and intense, the balance is brilliant not just excellent, and graphic flare will make your eyes die of awesome. Seriously, if you delight in a honest competition or just kickass anime action, you can’t go incorrect.
