In an era that was enamored with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Tradewest’s Battletoads turned out to be a game with exact timing. Easily one of the best examples of how to rip-off a more well loved license only to exceed the original inspiration in terms of quality, Battletoads is still considered by many to be one of the best side-scrolling beat ‘em up actioners of all time. As not only were the graphics incredible and the challenges high, but the game had plenty of personality too. Sadly, the Game Boy port never approached mindless perfection as closely as the Rare-developed NES original.

Now, I wouldn’t suggest this game to people who can’t take a challenge because this game dishes it out like no other ancient school game. It takes reflexes, persistence, and trial and error to beat this game. Though it starts off like your average beat em up, you’ll soon learn that there is more to this game than you had originally thought. The game’s levels are very unique by the fact that they successfully mixed different genres together. You’ll have beat em up, side scrolling shooting, and platforming levels. There isn’t really much of a plot but… who needs a plot, it’s a Battletoads game!
By and large, It’s an addicting game that is a must have for hardcore gamers who delight in ancient school sports meeting.

For the first time player, battletoads seems like a “ninja turtles beat em up” game but anyone who plays this will soon find that it is rather different. There are two reasons why I give this game a 3 out of 5 star rating: #1- Even though Battletoads is challenging to start with, some parts of the game are just flat irritating! #2- The last level is nearly impossible to beat. By and large most people will delight in Battletoads except for those who despise any kind of challenging sports meeting.

This is a splendid game! The graphics on this game were really excellent for being a game boy game. The music is brilliant. From the first time you hear the title theme, you Know you’re in for a wild ride. The controlls on this game are on the mark and not anything small of exact. The only thing that may be terrible (some like this) is that it is very challenging. Some people like hwne the game cannot be beaten easily. This game is one of those sports meeting. But, you have the classic Battletoad stages. Racing, beating, dodging and flying. This will all keep you entertained for hours.
