Stupid game play, not anything from the other sports meeting is in it. They try to re-invent the wheel, hideous graphics, truck details. No freedom to haul the loads you want, time deliveries, small maps. Why they called it 18 Wheels of Steel, it is not. Three set locations, but you have rack points to be able to go to those locations, dumb point system. Did I mention, I bought my own copy stupid choice, I guess I was expecting an brilliant game like their other titles. Stay away from this game, poor quality, terrible graphics, dull game play system, and no North America, Canada maps.

This is a different game, and it is debatable whether or not it should be considered part of the series considering how different it is. As a fan of the series, I still like this game. I don’t like it because it is part of the series, but rather because it is still a truck driving game. Some say that it is dull. At first, it is. But, the jobs get harder later on as you progress owing to the ranks. One thing I want to mention is that in the Australian territory, the trucks have the steering wheel on the right side of the vehicles, and you have to guide in the left lane (takes some getting used too). Since all the micromanagement has been taken out, all you have to do is driving to your destination and watch out for hazards (can be very hard at times). You don’t even have to back up your trailer or visit a gas station. The trips are honestly small (akin to that of the original 18WOS). The fun lies in avoiding the dangers, and making it (practically) in one piece and as quick as you can to your destination (points are subtracted for hurt). Another thing is that not all the vehicles assigned you will have 18 wheels (e.g. dump truck). Maybe “4-18 Wheels of Steel” should have been the title of this one. You usually get at least two jobs to choose from at a time, but as you progress, you get more choices. For every job, there is a different vehicle (you don’t use the same truck all the time) which helps make it fascinating. An vital thing to mention here is that you will never work with cash. It is entirely based on point accumulation. The differences in this game are so many, I consider it a different game altogether.
Pros
1. Challenging jobs (not in the beginning)
2. New vehicle types (not all have 18 wheels).
3. Can complete jobs quickly (see Con #3).
4. International routes (see Con #4)
5. New cargo types (e.g. helicopters and airplanes).
6. Can be addicting (I still am)
Cons:
1. Micromanagement has been severely reduced dampening game play.
2. The update in graphics isn’t too noticeable.
3. Routes are very small.
4. No American routes
5. Truck cabins seem to lack detail
6. Addiction is not akin to its predecessors (I’ll stop playing in a week or two and resume playing American Long Haul or other sequel).
I wanted to rate game play 4 stars, but there is just so much less to do in this sequel that I can’t rate it that high.
By and large, I reflect this game deserves 3 stars, and I say that as a compliment as this game will wear out honestly quickly.
